The Union Brighton sash fastener is a traditional non-locking catch designed for use on sliding sash windows. It's used to pull the two sashes together at the meeting rail, which helps to reduce drafts and increase security. The fastener is operated by unscrewing a knurled nut on a sprung lever arm. Once the arm is lifted and swung out of the way, the window can be opened. To secure the window, the arm is re-engaged with its keep and the nut is tightened, creating a firm and secure closure.
