How to prepare your garden for winter

November 7, 2017

This week we've noticed the weather has started to get colder and with Christmas just around the corner that means winter is on its way too!

If you managed to spend some time outside in the garden this summer you might have some fences, sheds or garden furniture that are starting to look a little worse for wear. Don't let them fade over winter, with some simple products from Henlow Building Supplies we can help you defend your garden from the cold and wet weather.

Fences and sheds are an important, and often not cheap, part of any garden. If you've splashed out and invested in some good quality fence panels or a sturdy garden shed it's important to take care of them.

Start by clearing away any weeds that have set up camp near your fence or plants which are climbing up the shed. These can cause irreparable damage and might mean that the panel needs replacing.

Once your fence is clear this Ronseal One Coat Fence Life adds a great colour and protects your fences from our harsh winter weather. We have a range of colours available which can last up to 2 years.

This paint dries in 1-2 hours so even with the unpredictable British weather you could still get the fences painted before it starts to rain again and the best part, as it says on the tin - it only needs one coat!

If you are looking for something with a more serious protection then try this BLACKFRIAR exterior wood preservative. It penetrates deep into the wood to give long lasting protection against wet rot, dry rot, blue staining and wood boring insects. You can use this on most outdoor timber including fences, sheds and cladding but if you're not sure if this is the right product for you just ask a member of the team.

If you need some help or advice on protecting your garden ready for winter pop in and see us at Henlow Building Supplies on Stratton Business Park in Biggleswade and speak to a member of our friendly team.
